Why the new Scott Spark RC matters
For years the XC world chased one number: the lowest possible weight on the scale. The new Spark RC flips that thinking on its head. Yes, it's astonishingly light — but every gram saved has been redeployed into speed, control and comfort rather than simply chasing a hero figure.
The result is a 120mm full-suspension XC race bike that can match the weight of shorter-travel rivals while delivering more grip, more composure and more confidence when the trail gets rough. For riders tackling the rapidly expanding Warburton Bike Park busting laps on the chunkier Silvan trails or chasing Comm Games KOM’s at Lysty, Spark RC will do it all, right before wagging its tail and willingly charging through the race field like a Kelpie rounding up the heard! That combination is exactly what you want.
Featherweight, with a purpose
At the heart of the range sits a frame that weighs just 1427g in a size medium (painted, including frame covers and pivot hardware) in its top-tier HMX-SL carbon layup. That places it among the very lightest 120mm frames on the market.
Scott has been a carbon pioneer for over 35 years, and it shows. Rather than building the frame to a number, they've engineered it as a complete system — stiffness where you need power transfer, controlled flex where you want grip, and material stripped out everywhere it no longer earns its place. There's even genuine strip-down potential for racers chasing the lightest possible race-day build, with removable storage hardware and modular cable guides unlocking up to 100g of extra savings.
The frame is offered in three carbon grades across the range:
HMX-SL — 1427g (the lightest, top-tier layup)
HMX — 1570g
HMF — 1793g
The suspension: one of the plushest XC bikes we've ever seen
This is where the Spark RC genuinely surprised us. On paper it's 120mm of travel front and rear (the fork is tested up to 130mm). On the trail it feels like more — in the best way.
The magic is in the kinematics. Scott's flex-pivot system keeps the suspension active and supple off the top for incredible small-bump sensitivity and traction, then ramps up progressively deep into the stroke for a planted, bottomless feel. You get the sensitivity of a plush trail bike and the predictability of a purpose-built race weapon — no harsh bottom-outs, no wallow. It charges into corners with grip to spare and stays calm when lesser bikes start to chatter and skip.
A custom rear shock tune with low-friction bearing eyelets adds even more small-bump sensitivity, and the kinematic is designed to run a larger air volume with plenty of headroom for progression tuning. Translation: it's easy to set up, and it just works.
Electronic suspension that thinks for you
Top-end Spark RC models run RockShox SID Ultimate Flight Attendant — fully electronic, automatically controlled suspension that listens to the rider and the terrain and adjusts between lockout, pedal and descend modes in real time. No reaching for a lever mid-effort, no second-guessing. You climb, it firms up. You drop in, it opens up. It's the kind of tech that quietly makes you faster.
Prefer a manual system? Other models in the range run Scott's proven TwinLoc — three suspension modes from a single lever, effectively three bikes in one. And because the frame is built around open shock compatibility, you can fit any standard XC shock down the track.
Set sag in seconds
One feature we love for everyday riders and racers alike: the built-in sag and travel indicator. Dialling in your suspension is genuinely a 30-second job, no guesswork required.

The cleverest storage in cross-country
Plenty of brands now offer in-frame storage. Very few do it this well. The Spark RC features one of the best-integrated "glove box" compartments we've seen, accessed via a slick magnetic barn-door cover that's both sealed against dirt and water and genuinely satisfying to use.Inside, the optional Save the Day kit tucks neatly out of sight — a storage bag carrying a mini pump, spare tube and tyre levers, plus an integrated frame tool with a 6mm hex for the axle, a T25 Torx and a 2.5 or 3mm hex for shock adjustments, depending on the model. It comes standard on select models, so you can leave the saddlebag and stuffed jersey pockets at home and ride unencumbered.

Topping it off, the Syncros lock-on grips are ready to store a bar-end tubeless plug kit, so you can fix a slow leak trailside without even getting off the bike. Smart, integrated, race-ready thinking throughout.
Cockpit, wheels and the finishing touches
Syncros iC-M100-SL one-piece carbon cockpit — just 210g (around 60g lighter than before), with a 740mm bar and 50–80mm stem options so every rider finds their fit.
Syncros Silverton CF1 carbon wheelset — a target weight of roughly 1180g with carbon spokes and a fast-engaging 36T ratchet hub, among the lightest production wheelsets going.
Syncros OCT (Octopus Cable-routing Technology) — colour-coded ducts routed through the headset make setup and servicing almost foolproof, with no proprietary lock-in.
Maxxis Aspen 29x2.4" tyres, tubeless ready, across the range.
A clever steering stopper that protects your frame, cables and levers in a crash or during transport, and pops back in with the frame tool so you can keep riding.
Modern, adjustable geometry
The Spark RC geometry is modern, race-bred and refined — with built-in head-angle adjustment of +/- 0.5° so you can steepen it up for tight, punchy XC courses or slacken it off for the steeper, faster trails at Warburton. A size medium runs a 455mm reach and a 65.9° head angle in the neutral setting.
Dropper-post integration is excellent too: every frame size fits at least a 150mm dropper, and the platform supports long-travel droppers up to 200mm on larger sizes thanks to a clever bottle-cage adapter that moves the threads outside the frame. There's still room for two bottles, including a large bottle on the down tube — even on a size small.
